Sample of comments from runners following Walkington 10k - 20th July 2007 Race:-

Just to say many thanks for all the organisation of the 10k. It was my first ever race and I came up from London to do it as my nephew was also running.

I'll definitely enter again next year and hopefully also the Beverley one.

Yeah - BIG thank you to all the marshals and helpers.
I'm sure it can't have been a lot of fun for them in all the rain, one of my fave events this -thanks again

Just a few lines to express my appreciation for all of the sterling work that went into the Walkington 10k last Friday evening. After running in the sweltering temperatures of last year (and vowing never to run in the event again), I was persuaded to enter once more.

The contrast in conditions could not have been more extreme! The organisation was first class, from the race marshals to the hardy souls that manned the water stations. Well done! Despite the torrential rain and strong winds, I ran a personal best, and will enter again next year!

What a cracking little race. Always well organised and marshalled although it turned out a little damp this year leading to the playing fields not being used which in turn led to traffic chaos. Apologies to the local populace but at least it's only once a year! A great way to start the weekend on an undulating country road course. Well done to the soggy marshals, you were great!

Just wish to say a big thank you. It was my first ever 10k and i only started running in

Feb, since then i have lost 3st, and still being nearly 17st and in my mid forties, was very self conscious of running in the company of serious runners.

I found it heart warming that for people of my ilk, you were competing against nobody but yourself, and the encouragement given to us by all the runners who had completed far earlier as they were walking back to their cars was a boost, that can only help encourage the stragglers like myself.

Well organised, friendly, not much else to say except i wish the club every success in future events, of which i will definitely be there, hopefully a little lighter, and attempting to shave some time off my 2007 effort!

Many thanks

It was nice to have some cool weather to run in, and once the race started I didn't notice the rain!!!!!
Great job and well done to all the marshals and organisers in terrible conditions.
I actually knocked over 3 mins off my 2004 time, amazingly!

Just to say (despite the rain!!) the organisation and atmosphere at this race was fantastic, as always. It is year after year one of our family's favourite races (although i must admit i prefer spectating in the sunshine!) The marshals did their best to ensure an enjoyable race regardless of the conditions.

And although it is not a fast course in theory (particularly not this year!) James got a pb for the 3rd year running! Ok, so the young are (hopefully!) improving all the time, but on an 'undulating' course in heavy rain to run sub 35mins for the first time is testimony to how much he enjoys racing at Walkington!
Thanks again. Let’s hope for a return to the sunshine next year!
